| What is FMP? |
A strength of any organization is the ability to recognize and commit to addressing its weaknesses. During the fall of 1998, we recognized we need to do a better job of preparing incoming freshman for their experiences at Neuqua Valley, particularly the privileges and resources available to them. We also wanted to introduce them to the skills they will need not only to succeed at Neuqua Valley, but those skills that will serve them throughout a lifetime.
Our response is a mentoring program that we began in the fall of 1999. Taught by 32 teams of 1 teacher and 2-3 students, the groups will meet once a day, the first 22 minutes of their lunch hour, for the first 12 days of school, plus the next five consecutive Fridays. The FMP teams also play a primary role in the Freshman Orientation Day the week before school begins.
We incorporated the word "mentor" into our program because we value the role that the 2 students,
typically 1 junior and 1 senior, play in the program. A mixture of in-group
activities, discussions and presentations will be the basis for the content of the program.
The common thread between each session will be how it addresses one of two themes:
